This bright, happy painting is the epitome of summer. The bold blues and greens of the sky and trees reflected in the river are simultaneously calming and refreshing. This view is from Goat Island looking downstream at the head of the Quesnel River in the small town of Likely, BC. Likely is a special place; everybody knows one another, life is slow and the boundary between humans and nature is nearly nonexistent. I can also personally attest that it is a great place to fall in love.

This little painting is ready to hang but the deep edged canvas is also easily positioned on a shelf or table bringing cheerful energy to any corner of your home.

About The Learning To Fly Collection:

Tom Petty music will always bring me back to carefree, peaceful summer memories. The following lyrics in particular have felt very relevant as I’ve created this collection of paintings:

"I'm learning to fly but I ain't got wings. Coming down is the hardest thing. Well, the good old days may not return, and the rocks might melt and the sea may burn."

As I've begun this creative journey I feel as though I am learning to fly all over again. These lyrics also seem to capture the feeling of the world right now. The “good old days may not return”, yet perhaps something much more beautiful will remain after this moment in history. Perhaps we will be kinder to our neighbours, appreciate nature more than ever before, and open our eyes more readily to the injustice in the world. Perhaps we can be better.
