"Deep Blue Something" - 6x8 inch mixed media painting on canvas

$125.00

"Deep Blue Something" an original mixed media painting by Melanie Fenton - 2023

These raw canvas pieces were very process-driven. I’ve been trying to sort out a way to work with raw canvas that felt authentic to my artistic voice and captures the elements of nature that I am drawn to. I have been on a thinking journey to create a process that is more “me” with this substrate, that includes the freedom and unpredictability that I so love about fluid acrylics as well as the incredible texture of raw canvas and of oil paint overtop.

Finally, one day last November it just clicked, “Oh!,” and I had a complete vision in my head, which does not often happen. I spent a long time working on little studies, playing with various colour combinations, trying to better understand this idea before committing to my stretched canvases. The unpredictable nature of the fluid paints mean that planning only goes so far, you have to work with what is already there and take it one step at a time. Each canvas brought me somewhere different and completely unexpected.
