This colour story was inspired by my first trip to Costa Rica. As a university student and budding field biologist, I took a month-long field primatology course in a very soggy rainforest in Eastern Costa Rica.

La Suerte means “the luck” in Spanish. It is also the name of the small biological field station. This special place provided me a place to learn and expand. A place to believe what my future could hold. As luck would have it, I did not follow the path I thought I was setting off on then. I am somewhere completely different today, and there has been grief in that and there has also been relief and release. Even in those days, as the excitement of science had me sprinting full speed ahead, the other half of me was always pausing, stopping, taking photos and wistfully dreaming of the day when I might have time to paint this. As luck would have it, I get to be both. As luck would have it, we all get to grow, branch out, embrace the contrast. The veridian and the vermillion.
