This abstract painting captures the experience of gazing up through the overstory. It captures the movement and energy of change as the seasons change. Words fail me, as it is my very favourite of the bunch, but I have taken the titled from the Mary Oliver poem that has inspired this series, “Lines written in the days of growing darkness”.

What does it take to truly know nature?
Creating this body of work has been a journey toward a new perspective and better understanding of nature. Each piece in this series is immersive, capturing the feeling of being up close and completely surrounded by nature, especially the forest. Rather than observing the landscape from a viewpoint, we are seeing it from within.
These paintings capture an energy of change; from small changes in light or movement to grand seasonal shifts and even human-caused change. Through this work I have explored cycles of death and rebirth, shifting, accepting, being alive right in the middle of a moment.
