About The Emerging Collection pt. II: Meadows

During the intense transition I have found myself in during the last few months I have found hope in the inevitability of the change of seasons, especially spring. Spring always comes. New life emerges, slowly at first, but eventually a fully wild and tangled meadow appears bursting with movement and colour.

The paintings in the latter half of this collection, aptly named, Meadows, capture that full return to life. These large canvases embody the energy and life contained in the spring and summer landscape. They have taught me a great deal in my artistic process, about patience, and about finding joy.

The process of creating this collection has been a long journey. Though I’d spent a lot of time planning, the first painting was started somewhat impulsively and this was reflected in the sometimes argumentative journey that we went on together. It soon became clear that the approach I was taking needed to be reevaluated, so I stepped back. I worked on the colour palette. I created a couple of studies on paper. I reigned it in and in doing so I made a clear path from which my true creativity could flow.⁣ The paintings in this collection are named to represent that journey.
