This dirt road could be anywhere. For me, it is the road that runs along the south side of Quesnel Lake right before it becomes the Quesnel River up in the Cariboo where my in-laws live. It's usually the place I go running when I'm up there, partly because it's flatter than the other roads but mostly because of the mosses. They are thick and soft and alive with the most brilliant shades of chartreuse. And I just can't stop being amazed by them. Lichens in every shade and texture climb the trunks of trees and hang in pale green hairs from their branches. And it's quiet. No one but me and green.

What does it take to truly know nature?
Creating this body of work has been a journey toward a new perspective and better understanding of nature. Each piece in this series is immersive, capturing the feeling of being up close and completely surrounded by nature, especially the forest. Rather than observing the landscape from a viewpoint, we are seeing it from within.
These paintings capture an energy of change; from small changes in light or movement to grand seasonal shifts and even human-caused change. Through this work I have explored cycles of death and rebirth, shifting, accepting, being alive right in the middle of a moment.
