These beautiful native shrubs grow in abundance along the banks of our favourite creek. They are beautiful in every season, even once their leaves all fall, their striking red branches decorate the forest. But my favourite time of year to admire this plant is at the very end of summer; they develop bright white berries and their leaves begin to turn red starting from the centre giving them striking red spots against the complementary green.
Size: 10” x 8” x 1.5”

What does it take to truly know nature?
Creating this body of work has been a journey toward a new perspective and better understanding of nature. Each piece in this series is immersive, capturing the feeling of being up close and completely surrounded by nature, especially the forest. Rather than observing the landscape from a viewpoint, we are seeing it from within.
These paintings capture an energy of change; from small changes in light or movement to grand seasonal shifts and even human-caused change. Through this work I have explored cycles of death and rebirth, shifting, accepting, being alive right in the middle of a moment.
